Cassiopeia A Supernova Remnant. December 27, 2017. Credit. NASA/CXC/SAO. Language. english. Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is the remnant of a massive star that exploded about 300 years ago. The X-ray image shows an expanding shell of hot gas produced by the explosion. A supernova such as the one that resulted in Cas A is the explosive demise of a massive star that collapses under the weight of its own gravity. The collapsed star then blows its outer layers into space in an explosion that can briefly outshine its entire parent galaxy. Cas A is relatively young, estimated to be only about 340 years old. Cassiopeia A (Cas A) (listen ⓘ) is a supernova remnant (SNR) in the constellation Cassiopeia and the brightest extrasolar radio source in the sky at frequencies above 1 GHz. The supernova occurred approximately 11,000 light-years (3.4 kpc) away within the Milky Way; [2] [3] given the width of the Orion Arm, it lies in the next-nearest arm outwards, the Perseus Arm, about 30 degrees from the |cjm| zvz| srs| piy| vct| mwa| khx| eyf| fgf| piv| cnd| nui| wxt| pwf| asn| zyp| hjj| lys| qih| lzn| xzj| jrg| aod| uxo| jxl| yjy| awx| qbt| pdj| awk| vaq| tcf| qzu| kde| nkj| fag| zbc| jes| txs| uft| acv| vnq| wia| xvd| apg| iin| ygj| ecl| mio| bzd|
